The Fed held rates steady. December is still open.
On Oct 28, the FOMC voted 10-2 to keep the federal funds target range at 3.75%-4.00%:
· Lisa Cook and Beth Hammack preferred a 25bp hike
· Economic activity was expanding at a strong pace
· Inflation remained elevated
The decision followed September’s 25bp increase. October’s pause leaves the current rate unchanged, while the two dissenting votes show that some officials still favor further tightening.
The policy tension is straightforward: growth remains resilient while inflation is above the Fed’s 2% target. The next releases will help clarify whether demand is cooling and price pressures are easing.
The advance Q3 GDP estimate and September Personal Income and Outlays report, including PCE inflation, are scheduled for Oct 29 at 12:30 UTC.
They offer different perspectives:
· GDP: how quickly the economy grew and what drove that growth
· PCE: how household spending and price pressures are evolving
The composition matters alongside the headline numbers. Consumer spending and investment help explain economic resilience, while underlying inflation trends help assess whether price pressures are becoming less persistent.
A stronger growth reading could reinforce the picture of resilient demand. Softer inflation could support the case for allowing existing policy more time to work. If the reports point in different directions, employment, wages and subsequent inflation data will become more important to the December assessment.
The next FOMC meeting is scheduled for Dec 8-9, with updated economic projections. Beyond the rate decision, those forecasts will show how officials assess growth, unemployment, inflation and the future policy path.
October delivered a pause. The focus now shifts to whether incoming evidence supports keeping rates unchanged for longer or strengthens the case for another increase.
Will the next round of data bring more clarity to December’s decision?

Robinhood posted record revenue, but the earnings mix tells a more complicated story.
Q3 results released on Oct 27 showed:
· Revenue: $1.424B, up 12% YoY
· Net income: $476M, down 14%
· Diluted EPS: $0.51
CNBC compared reported EPS with an LSEG estimate of $0.56. A revenue record and an earnings miss can coexist. The useful question is what changed beneath the totals.
Transaction-based revenue rose 19% to $867M, with notable differences across products:
· Options: $399M, up 31% YoY
· Equities: $121M, up 41%
· Event contracts: $173M, more than six times a year earlier
· Crypto: $120M, down 55%
Event contracts generated more revenue than crypto this quarter. That shows how quickly Robinhood’s mix can change, but one quarter does not establish a permanent product hierarchy. Both businesses remain sensitive to customer activity.
Pressure also came from outside transaction revenue. Net interest revenue fell 9% to $415M, reflecting lower short-term rates and securities lending activity. Operating expenses rose 16% to $739M, faster than total revenue.
Net income included $67M in unrealized losses, primarily tied to the mark-to-market of Robinhood Ventures Fund I. Robinhood’s adjusted net income was $550M, with adjusted EPS of $0.60. These non-GAAP measures provide another lens, but they do not replace reported earnings.
The platform still added scale. Net deposits reached about $16B, while Gold subscribers hit a record 5.2M. Deposits and subscriptions support customer engagement, but they are not equivalent to revenue or proof of future trading activity.
The quarter’s message is clear: product diversification can support top-line growth, while rates, expenses, market activity and accounting adjustments still shape profitability.
Robinhood is building more revenue engines. The next test is whether those engines can produce more consistent earnings across different market conditions.

SK hynix just crossed KRW 100T in quarterly revenue. The next test is scaling capacity without losing discipline.
Preliminary Q3 results released on Oct 28 set records:
· Revenue: KRW 104.62T, up 32% QoQ
· Operating profit: KRW 83.33T, up 38% QoQ
· Net profit: KRW 39.78T
· Operating margin: 80%
The result was not limited to one product. SK hynix reported stronger server DDR5 sales, rising HBM4 shipments and expanding sales of 321-layer TLC enterprise SSDs. It expects HBM4 to exceed HBM3E in both shipments and revenue in Q4, making it the company’s mainstream HBM product.
That mix connects AI computing with broader memory and storage demand. Pricing matters, but so do product qualification, supply execution and the cost of serving customers.
Long-term agreements now cover more than half of planned 2027-2028 production capacity. Management expects memory shortages to persist through 2030 and plans to increase investment significantly in 2027.
The agreements improve demand visibility, but they do not guarantee future revenue or margins. Capacity expansion still depends on construction, equipment delivery and customer requirements.
The balance sheet provides room for that plan:
· Cash and cash equivalents: KRW 114.5T
· Borrowings: KRW 15.8T
· Net cash: KRW 98.7T at quarter-end
Net cash is a balance-sheet measure, not free cash flow. It indicates financial flexibility, but does not establish the return on future investment.
SK hynix also outlined approximately KRW 100T in shareholder returns for 2026, including cash dividends and share repurchases. Those returns should be considered separately from recurring memory earnings and future capital needs.
A record quarter and ambitious expansion can coexist. The longer-term question is whether HBM4 demand, new capacity and customer commitments remain aligned as the memory cycle evolves.
The headline is powerful. The next proof point is margin durability after supply conditions change.
